TITLE & AUTHOR: Well Matched by Jen Deluca
PLOT: In this third book in the "Well Met" series, we get the chance to follow April and Mitch and witness their love story.
April is a 40-year old single mom living in Willow Creek with her soon-to-be 18 year old daughter Caitlin. When April was in a major car accident that resulted in significant damage to her leg, her sister Emily joined the mother-daughter duo to help out around the house while April recovered. Now that Emily is married to Simon, whom she met working at the annual Renaissance Faire, it may just be April's turn to find love.
Mitch is the gym teacher at the local high school, and also the town hottie. However, Mitch may be known to hitting up the local dive bar to score dates on the weekends, but in reality, he is tired of his family teasing him for being single. So, Mitch asks April to pretend to be his girlfriend for a weekend trip to visit family. April reluctantly agrees, and soon, a fake relationship starts to feel quite real for both of them.
When Mitch and April start to get close, alarm bells go off in April's head and she shuts down, shutting Mitch out of her life and heart. She continues with her plans to leave Willow Creek once Caitlin leaves for college and attempts to forget about Mitch. Eventually, April realizes that she deserves love and that Mitch really does care about her.
THOUGHTS: I say this about most books, but I just love this series. The Renaissance Faire theme is so unique and the writer depicts the story in such a playful and romantic way.
I remember rolling my eyes at Mitch in the first two books because he came across as such a player, but this book changed my mind. He has a sensitive and caring side to him that I'm thrilled that we got to see. I also appreciated how strong and independent April is. Although I will say that I was starting to get annoyed with April when she continuously would push Mitch away, for pretty much no reason. I get that she was scared and unsure if he was really serious about her, but I think he made it known. But thankfully she realized it eventually :)
